Dr. Jacob Ham (www.drjacobham.com) a compassionate therapist who understands the power of relationships in healing trauma, talks to us this evening about how to prepare oneself for receiving the permanent placement of an older child who has experienced trauma. He prepares us for accepting that the behaviors some traumatized youth bring with them can put their new parents in touch with their own past trauma’s as well. Dr. Ham provides psychotherapy counseling through a faculty practice at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center and he notes that his “day job” is directing a federally-funded program for traumatized children and families.
